وَمَا مَنَعَ النَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا إِذْ جَاءهُمُ الْهُدَى وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّا أَن تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ قُبُلًا

سورة الكهف
(18/55) And what prevents men from believing when Hidayet comes to them (when they are invited to Hidayet), and from asking forgiveness from their Lord, is that what happened to the ancients did not overtake them, or that the torment did not come face to face with them.
