اللّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّوُرِ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ أَوْلِيَآؤُهُمُ الطَّاغُوتُ يُخْرِجُونَهُم مِّنَ النُّورِ إِلَى الظُّلُمَاتِ أُوْلَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

(2/257) Allah is the “Walî” (Protecting Friend) of those who believe (who are âmenû, those who wish to reach Allah before death). He brings them (their souls’ hearts) out of the darkness into the light; and (as to) those who disbelieve, their friends are the Tâgût (Satans) (they take satans as their friends, Satan does not become a friend to anyone). They take them out of the light into the darkness; they are the inmates of the Fire, in it they shall abide forever.
