يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الأهِلَّةِ قُلْ هِيَ مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَالْحَجِّ وَلَيْسَ الْبِرُّ بِأَنْ تَأْتُوْاْ الْبُيُوتَ مِن ظُهُورِهَا وَلَكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنِ اتَّقَى وَأْتُواْ الْبُيُوتَ مِنْ أَبْوَابِهَا وَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

(2/189) They ask you about the crescent moons. Say: “These are signs to mark fixed periods of time and the pilgrimage for mankind”. And it is not Al-Birr (righteous deed that makes one worthy of Paradise) that you enter the houses from their backs (as they used to during the period of Ignorance) but Al-Birr is what makes one pious (the owner of piety, “takvâ”) So enter the houses through their proper doors, and become pious.
